You can find where to buy costumes very easily, there are many shops and different prices. But if you prefer to make it yourself here you have some ideas.

Regarding to costumes for your children the first thing to decide is whether they are going to take part in the making or not. If so, choose simple costumes, better on paper. One of the costumes I have lately liked most is the one that Gabriele Blair (Design Mom) made for one of her children as Rubik’s cube.

On specialized webs you will find many ideas: on Guia Infantil you have the tutorial to make a mask, on Decopeques masks to print and to cut out and on Jugar y Colorear the steps to make a lion head on paper.

I specially like Gearsco’s tutorial to make a fairy wings (in two steps: 1 and 2).

If you are going to make it yourselves then choose depending on your time and capacity. At the kiosks I find less and less magazines with customes patterns whereas on Internet it is easy to find examples, advices and tutorials. There are two web pages that I like very much: Martha Stewart’s and Todo Halloween. They have everything: costumes for children, for adults, makeups, non-sewing costumes…

Si no tenéis mucho tiempo podéis recurrir a detalles que resulten muy llamativos: máscaras, capas, varitas, …

If you don’t have many time you can resort to details that look very showy: masks, capes, magic wands…

Makeup is very important, take your time to it. Last year my daughter dressed up as snake and my husband made her up with a great idea he found in YouTube: he put a mesh stocking on her face and applied the makeup. On removing the stocking it looked like scales.

Sobre todo, ponedle imaginación y color.
And the most important, use your imagination and colors.
