As you know, I was in Barcelona, in the Creative Fair, and took advantage of the trip to the city to visit some sewing and craft shops. These are the ones I liked the most.

One of the shops most well-known in Barcelona is Dona Punt de Creu (calle Provença, 256-258), specialized in cross-stitch and patchwork. The place is literally flooded with fabrics, patterns, threads, ribbons… To choose an alphabet to embroider or a fabric, among the great amount they have, it is a hard work. Besides, courses are offered. It seemed to me very cozy and lively.

Quite close is Oyambre, in Roger de Lauria, 94. A shop with much history and very crowded, specialized in cross-stitich and knitting, though it also has material for patchwork. But the better variety was at the section of wools, a pleasure! The place, newly open, is wide, with several areas to work (cutting tables, knitting areas…). The clients seemed to be regular. It sells on Internet.

Prince of Asturias, 1) is a small shop but full of material for cross stitch and half stitch, specially patterns and kits. It has a great variety of designs, all the styles and the last novelties. You may also find a great variety of bags for crafts. Its owner is very nice and  enthusiast.

There are four Fil D’Or shops in Barcelona. As I was near, I approached the one at Calle Gran de Gracia, 51. The place is big and has a lot of stuff for patchwork and embroidery. Used to Fil D’Or shop in Valencia, which is very nice but so small, this one seemed to me a palace.

Next to Sagrada Familia you will find Patchcat (calle Valencia, 431). Though it is specialized in patchwork (fashion dictates), it is very well-stocked with materials for other crafts (felt, painting, decoupage…). I loved browsing around paintings, papers and all these things that smell so well.

Merceria Santa Ana (Avda. Porta de l’Angel, 26) is a traditional shop. That’s why it does not have a very interesting aspect externally with girdles in the shop windows, but inside you will find great variety of buttons, sequins, beads, threads, ribbons… Do not miss to see every corner. They organize courses of bobbin making, macramé, smock stitch and knitting.

If you like beads you have to visit Casa Torres (Calle del Pi, 3). It has everything, especially in fastenings and tools. The salesclercks are marvellous, they know a lot and do not have any problem with contradicting you if they think you are in the wrong direction on what you are asking. They also sell through the website.

And I have left my best discoveries for the end. First Nunoya (calle de la Palla, 6), a shop of Japanese products. What they have mainly are … fabrics! Irresistible, you need a long time just to throw away the half you want to take. You can buy them over the Internet.

Éste fue mi botín.

This was my booty.

And another finding was stall of patchwork fabrics (first hand) at Els EncantsVells market, which is the most ancient market of second hand goods in Barcelona. They have precious fabrics and a great variety. The prices are OK, though they are not specially low. They have a lot of plain fabrics.

Els Encants is at Calle Dos de Mayo, 186, but it is going to change its location. It opens on Mondays, Wednesday, Fridays and Saturdays from 9.00 to 17.00 h.

Barcelona has a great artistic and handcrafted life. There are many handmade shops (Gracia area) and small trade (Ciutat Vella, El Raval) that will make enjoy lovely walks. You can find everything. For example, I was in a shop that sold doorknockers and ancient switches.

For lunch I advise you two places: Habana Vieja (Calle Banys Vells, 2), next to the cathedral, a charming Cuban restaurant in an old place; and L’Academia (Calle Lledó, 1), in Ciutat Vella, a modern restaurant with a delicious menu and reasonable prices.
