Hemos pasado unos días en el sur de Italia y ha sido un viaje fantástico. Tenía muchas ganas de conocer Pompeya y la Costa Amalfitana y me han encantado, al igual que Nápoles, una ciudad que francamente nunca había pensado visitar.
We have spent a few days in the South of Italy and it’s been a fantastic trip. I really wanted to visit Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast and I’ve loved them, as Naples, a town that, frankly, wasn’t in my plans to visit.
Para visitar Pompeya y Herculano nos alojamos en Nápoles. Hemos oído muchas opiniones sobre ella; a nosotros nos gustó mucho. Es bulliciosa, caótica, bastante sucia y necesita una buena restauración y muchas capas de pintura, pero también es encantadora y acogedora y se come muy bien. El casco antiguo nos recordó a Túnez y El Cairo. En cuanto a la seguridad, que parece ser la razón por la que mucha gente no viaja allí, nosotros no nos sentimos inseguros en ningún momento.
To visit Pompeii and Herculaneum we stayed in Naples. We heard many opinions about it; we liked it very much. It’s bustling, chaotic, quite dirty and needs a good restoration and many coats of paint, but it’s also charming and cozy and food is great. The old town reminded us of Tunis and Cairo. As for the safety, which seems to be the reason for many people for not to travel there, we didn’t feel unsafe at any time.

Respecto a Pompeya y Herculano, es increíble su estado de conservación. Mi hija se lo pasó genial, aprendió mucho y se divirtió explorando cada rincón. Marzo es una buena época para ir porque hay pocos turistas y hace muy buen tiempo, nada del sofocante calor veraniego.
Regarding Pompeii and Herculaneum, their state of conservation is incredible. My daughter had a great time, she learned a lot and had fun exploring every corner. March is a good time to go because there are few tourists and weather is fine, nothing of the stifling summer heat.

En Nápoles alquilamos un coche y nos fuimos a la Costa de Amalfi. En cuanto a la experiencia de conducir en Italia, hay que tener mucho temple: no se respeta la raya continua, coches y motos se cuelan por todos sitios y circulan a menudo en dirección contraria… pero ¡nadie pita!
We rented a car in Naples and drove to Amalfi Coast. Driving in Italy is a real experience, it takes a lot of courage: the continuous line is not respected, cars and motorcycles snake their way through the traffic jams and they often come in the opposite direction … but nobody hoots!
La Costa de Amalfi está formada por montañas que llegan hasta el mar en las que se encuentran hermosos pueblos (Amalfi, Ravello, Positano,…).
Amalfi Coast is made up of mountains which reach down the sea where beautiful villages are (Amalfi, Ravello, Positano…).
Desde allí nos acercamos a las ruinas griegas de Paestum, un lugar mágico. Está como a una hora de Salerno.
From there we went to the Greek ruins of Paestum, a magic place. It’s about an hour drive from Salerno.
Para terminar, no puedo olvidarme de los riquísimos dulces y helados italianos y de los bonitos establecimientos y escaparates.
Finally, I cannot forget the delicious Italian cakes and ice creams and the beautiful establishments and shop windows.
