Guía de Viaje: San Francisco / San Francisco Guide

Estando en Las Vegas aprovechamos para hacer una escapada a San Francisco. Sólo teníamos dos días, pero descubrimos una ciudad muy agradable, multicultural, cosmopolita y volcada al arte y al handmade.

 

While we were in Las Vegas we made a quick getaway to San Francisco. We only stayed there for two days, but we discovered a very pleasant, multicultural and cosmopolitan city, devoted to art and handmade.

Nuestra primera visita fue a Alcatraz. Lo que más me gustó fueron los muebles y objetos antiguos que se conservan en la cárcel.

Our first visit was to Alcatraz. What I particularly liked was the old furniture and objects preserved in the jail. 

De vuelta a la ciudad, nos fuimos a Fisherman’s Wharf, donde están el puerto deportivo y los muelles, ocupados ahora por restaurantes, museos y una zona comercial donde hay muchos puestos y tiendas de artistas y artesanos.

Back to the city, we went to Fisherman’s Wharf, with the marina and the piers, occupied now by restaurants, museums and a commercial area where there are many street stalls and shops of artists and craftsmen.

 

 

Luego paseamos por el Distrito Financiero, que me recordó bastante a Nueva York por sus modernos, elegantes y altísimos edificios.

Then we walk along the Financial District, which reminded me New York’s because its modern, elegant and huge buildings.

 

 

Allí se encuentra una librería que me habían aconsejado, City Lights Books (261 Columbus Avenue). El local, que ocupa dos plantas y el sótano, es muy antiguo y acogedor, con vigas de madera y estanterías abarrotadas de libros.

There we found a bookshop someone had recommended me, City Lights Books (261 Columbus Avenue). The place, which occupies two floors and the basement, is very old and cozy, with wooden girders and overloaded bookshelves.

 

Y justo al lado del Distrito Financiero está Chinatown; el contraste es fantástico. El barrio chino de San Francisco es el más grande fuera de Asia. No es turístico, como el de Nueva York, sino que hay tiendas, negocios, viviendas, colegios,…

And just next to the Financial District is Chinatown; the contrast is great. It is said that San Francisco’s Chinatown is the largest outside of Asia. It isn’t a tourist area, as the one in New York, but there are shops, business, houses, schools…

 

 

 

Acabamos el día en Union Square, donde estaba nuestro hotel. Es una zona comercial bastante agradable. Allí encontré una elegante tienda de ropa vintage, Torso Vintage (290 Sutter Street),

We finish the day in Union Square, where our hotel was. It’s a pretty nice commercial area. There I found a smart shop of vintage clothes, Torso Vintage  (290 Sutter Street),

y una papelería que vendía preciosas tarjetas, gran variedad de papel, libros,… Se llama Avant-Card (338 Grant Avenue).

and an stationary store selling beautiful cards, great variety of papers, books… It’s called Avant-Card (338 Grant Avenue).

 

Como San Francisco es tan grande y hay tantas y tan empinadas cuestas, al día siguiente cogimos un autobús para visitar algunos barrios. Queríamos ir a Nob Hill, donde se conservan algunas casas de principios de siglo.

As San Francisco is so big and there are so many very steep slopes, the following day we took a bus to visit some districts. We wanted to go to Nob Hill, where still there are some houses from beginning of 20^th century.

Y a Haight Ashbury, antiguo barrio hippie ahora muy alternativo.

And to Haight Ashbury, old hippie area, now very alternative.

En autobús recorrimos el Área Nacional del Golden Gate, un amplísimo y hermoso conjunto de parques naturales que acogen monumentos históricos, museos y zonas de recreo. Al ser sábado estaba muy animado.

By bus we crossed the National Area of the Golden Gate, a wide and beautiful set of national parks, home of historical monuments, museums and recreation areas. As it was Saturday it was really lively.

 

Y finalizamos nuestra visita a San Francisco en un sitio que no me quería perder, Market Place, en el Ferry Building. Es un mercado de productos artesanos y comida ecológica. ¡Me encantó!

And we finish our visit to San Francisco in a place I couldn’t miss, Market Place in Ferry Building. It’s a market of artisan products and ecological food. I loved it!
