At the end of August it was celebrated in Alicante the Third National Meeting of Amigurumi and Craft. Last year I couldn’t attend because I was travelling, but this time I did not miss it. And it was brilliant, I had a great time and learned very much, and I knew some nice people with whom I enjoyed our mutual interest for crafts.
This event was organized by Handmade Lab through Amo el Amigurumi. Handmade Lab is a creative space located in Alicante, an Helena Vicente‘s initiative that brings together marvellous and enthusiast crafters from this city to run workshops and other activities.
The meeting developed over three days in which, besides the workshops was carried out a crochet guerrilla with which was decorated the entry of Las Cigarreras, place of the event.
Mini-yos, Punch Needle,…
There were a lot of workshops: Making stamps, Crochet XL, Initiation to Amigurumi, Mochimochi, Mini-yos, Punch Needle… Sunny, from Oh So Sunny! assisted to the workshop about Stamps. Don’t miss her chronicle of the meeting and her experiences making stamps. I attended two, one about Mochimochi and other about Punch Needle. My teacher was Gemma, from Wasel Wasel, a fantastic crafter that taught us so many things and with whom we had a very good time.
I was very much interested in the Mochimochi course because though I am a self-taught (except dressmaking that I learned with a friend) knit is a craft I find hard to learn on my own. So I wanted to expand and improve my little knowledge. Besides, knitting with five needles seemed to me fascinating. And it is!
Gemma is a great knitter and very soon she is going to begin a series of video-tutorials on her blog, so be aware. I am looking forward to them, so I will warn you when she publishes them.
As for the Punch Needle course, it was also marvellous. Gemma cleared me up many doubts about the tools, the materials and the technique. This embroidery has so many names and I have read so many about it on the internet, that it was quite confused. So I will dedicate a post soon and I will tell you more.
Though the girls from Handmade Lab complained of the fact that in Alicante there are not many events or resources for craft fans, the certain thing is that they have begun their way successfully. And certainly, something is happening in Alicante, they are. Thank you for these marvellous days!
I want to thank specially Sunny, from Oh So Sunny!, who has given me some of her photos of the meeting, she took while I was fighting with my five needles.
