Nuestra fiesta de Halloween / Our Halloween party

This year the preparations for the Halloween party has been a madness because I just had a few hours to cook. We came back from London the day before and I felt really tired. So I was a bit worried, but finally it was really fun.

Iván and Ana took charge of the decoration and the games. They organized a “terrifying” gymkhana hiding the candies and the children had a great time playing. I cooked a pumpkin cake using a mold I was looking forward to using, glazed butter cookies and witch’s hats. And Ana prepared “lollipops-eyes”.

I made the witch’s hats with ice cream cones and cookies. I covered them with chocolate, put little candy balls inside and place them on the cookies. When the chocolate set it all was quite bonded. They were not perfect because I had to do it quickly, but children liked them.

As for the pumpkin cake, I tried a new recipe we liked very much. The cake results very spongy.

Ingredientes:
200 gr. de calabaza
200 gr. de harina
250 gr. de azúcar
5 huevos

Ingredients:
200 gr pumpkin
200 gr. flour
250 gr. sugar
5 eggs
50 gr. sunflower oil
1 teaspoon of cinnamon,
a pinch of salt and orange food coloring (optional)

1. Preheat the oven to 170º and prepare a mold approximately 20 cm. diameter, wrapping it with greaseproof paper or greasing it with butter.
2. Grate the pumpkin and keep it apart.
3. Separate the yolks from the whites and beat the eggs whites with half of the sugar.
4. Mix the yolks with the rest of the sugar and add the grated pumpkin, the oil, the flour with the yeast, cinnamon, salt and colouring, in this order and constantly stirring.
5. Then add the meringue made with the egg whites.
6. Pour the mixture into the mold and bake for approximately an hour.
