Receta: tarta arco iris / Recipe: rainbow cake

Last Sunday was my daughter’s birthday, twelve years! I had a great weekend: on Saturday I went shoping with her and I enjoyed how much she has grown up, her changes in tastes, interests and attitude. For me, the best age is always “now”. Adapting and sharing her changes is an enriching, happy and exciting adventure, no matter how hard is fighting with them. But there would not be one thing without the other

We have celebrated the birthday in a different way this year. Her best friends came home to spend the day: swimming pool, gossips, dances, fancy dresses… They did what they wanted. They ate pasta and cake and some sandwiches in the afternoon. We wanted them to feel free to do what they like. This is what they wish above all at this age.

Well, let’s get to the point. Ana asked me for a rainbow cake she saw on the Internet and I did it my way.

Ingredientes:
400 gr. de harina
200 gr. de azúcar
130 gr. de mantequilla
300 ml de leche
5 huevos medianos

Ingredients:
400 gr. flour
200 gr. sugar
130 gr. butter
300 ml milk
5 medium eggs
1 sachet yeast (16 gr.)
food dyes, if liquid, reduce the quantity we add to that of milk

For the cover (butter cream):
125 gr. butter
15 cc whole milk
5 cc liquid dye or vanilla essence if you prefer it white

250 gr. icing glass

1. Precalentamos el horno a 170º.
5. Para unir las distintas capas he usado un poco de butter cream y después he cubierto con ella toda la tarta.
6. Podéis decorarla como queráis. Nosotras hemos puesto brillantina, adornos de fondant, bolitas multicolores y nubes alrededor.

1. Preheat the oven to 170 º.
2. Beat well all the ingredients adding them little by little in this order: eggs, sugar, butter, milk, flour and yeast.
3. Once the dough is ready, weigh and separate in six equal parts. Add a different color dye to each part and bake them separately using the same mold previously lined with greaseproof paper. I have used a 7.9’’ mold. As they are small quantities of dough, they are ready in just approximately 10 minutes.
4. Meanwhile you can prepare the cover: beat the butter at room temperature with the essence of vanilla or the dye for a while. Then add the icing sugar and the milk and continue beating until its texture looks like whipped cream. The key for a great butter cream is to beat it to maxim power for a long time a and non-stop, so it is better to do it using a mixer.
5. I have used a bit of butter cream to join different layers and then cover with it the whole cake.
6. You can decorate it as you prefer. We have add some glitter, fondant ornaments, colored  balls and candies.
