There is no a Spanish term for “crazy patchwork stitches” or “crazy quilt stitches”. So I have titled this post as “embroidery stitches for seams quilt”; it’s not so funny, but this is what  involves.

An alternative to quilt is to embroider the seams. The result is pretty mad, anarchic, because usually different stitches are used, the more, the better. Even edgings or drawings are embroidered going through the pieces.

As you can see, many stitches can be embroidered and virtually all are edging stitches. The more common ones are these:

punto de cruz /  cross stitch

punto de pluma / feather stitch

punto de espiga / herringbone stitch

punto recto / running stitch

But there are no limits, anything can be done: embroidering flowers, beads, ribbons… If you are interested in this subject I recommend the work of the English emboriderer Janet Haigh, crazy patchwork specialist. She gives classroom and online sessions on Heart Space Studios and she wrote a great book on this theme.
