Me gusta comprar chapas, sobre todo de ilustradores, y hace tiempo que quería hacerme un tote para ponerlas.
I like buying badges, especially from illustrators, and I wanted to make a tote to place some of them.
Necesitamos hilo, tela para el forro y tela adecuada para bolsos; yo he utilizado retorta, que es un algodón grueso. Para que se vean bien las chapas, he elegido tela blanca y como forro una tela estampada para contrastar.
You need some thread, fabric for the lining and an appropiate fabric for purses; I have used a thick cotton. I have chosen a white fabric so the badges can be well seen and for lining a printed fabric to contrast.
1– Los totes tienen forma rectangular, así que dibujad en el revés de las telas un rectángulo del tamaño que queráis que tenga el bolso. El mío es de 32 cm. x 40 cm., para que quepan mis bastidores, reglas de patchwork, etc.
1- The totes have a rectangular shape, so draw a rectangle on the reverse of the fabrics, the size you prefer the purse to be. Mine is 32 cm. X 40 cm., so my frames, rules of patchwork, etc.,fit.
2– En la tela exterior he cosido a máquina unos cuadros en los que pondré las chapas, a pespunte y de colores distintos en cada lado del tote. Los he dibujado por el derecho de la tela con un rotulador que se borra con agua.
2- On the outer fabric I have sewed with a sewing machine some frames to backstitching and in different colors in every side of the tote. There I will put the badges. I have drawn them on the right side of the fabric with a water-soluble felt-tip pen.
3– A continuación, cosemos, derecho con derecho, las piezas exteriores y las del forro, todos los lados excepto la abertura del bolso. Cortad las esquinas inferiores, como veis en las fotos.
3- Next, sew matching the right sides, the outer and the lining pieces, all sides but the opening of the purse. Cut the lower corners, as you can see in the photos.
4– Por otro lado hacemos las asas del bolso. Cortamos dos tiras de tela de 8 cm. de ancho por 1 m. de largo (depende de vuestra altura). Las planchamos doblándolas por la mitad y metiendo los márgenes de costura y cosemos a pespunte. Yo lo he hecho por los dos lados para que quede más bonito.
4- On the other hand, make the bag handles. Cut two fabric strips of 8 cm. width by 1 m. length (it depends on your height). Iron them folding in half and putting the sewing allowances inside and sew a back stitch. I have made it both sides so I looks nicer.
5– Para montar el bolso ponemos del derecho la pieza exterior y la introducimos en el forro, haciendo coincidir las costuras. Con una regla marcamos la posición de las asas; yo las he colocado a cinco centímetros de las costuras. Colocamos las asas entre la tela exterior y el forro y cosemos dejando un hueco para darle la vuelta.
5- To assemble the bag put the outer piece right and stick it into the lining, matching the seams. With a rule, mark the position of the handles; I have placed them five centimeters from the seams. Place the handles between the outer fabric and the lining and sew leaving an anstitched part to turn the inside out.
Al coser donde están las asas, rematar un par de veces para que soporten bien el peso de lo que llevemos en el bolso.
When sewing where the handles are, finish it off once or twice so they support the weight of what you take into the bag.
6– Damos la vuelta al bolso por el hueco que hemos dejado y terminamos cosiendo un pespunte por todo el borde del bolso para cerrar el hueco y reforzar de nuevo las asas.
6- Turn the inside out through the left gap have left and sew a back stitch at the whole edge of the bag to close the gap and to reinforce again the handles.
