Guía de viaje: México I / Mexico Guide I

Last Christmas we made a wonderful trip to Mexico. These have been fifteen magical days through the country enjoying the hospitality of the people, its gastronomy and its exceptional and diverse cultural wealth. There is so much to tell that I would need a lot of posts, so I think it is better if I make a photographic summary for you; here come the first part.

San Juan de Chamula

El recorrido fue éste:

These was our journey:

Mexico City is very bustling city; as the rest of the country, people enjoy on the streets and squares, wandering and eating all the time.

Chapulines colorados, that is to say, crunchy crickets. They eat it as a salty snack.

Oaxaca, with its colonial streets, is lovely. We liked very much the traditional bandstands at the squares, still in use in all the cities.

Mexican food is delicious and I got hungry just watching its colors and with its aroma. The best things for me were the drinks made with natural fruit and the fact that the spicy sauces are set aside.

Near San Cristóbal de las Casas, in Chiapas, there are some indigenous communities. We visited two of them, San Juan de Chamula and Zinacantán. In Chamula there was a
local market with all kinds of products. Certainly, there I bought wools and threads to embroider.

And in Zinacantán we visited the house of a family dedicated to embroidering and weaving.
