Guía de viaje: China III. Hong Kong. / China guide III. Hong Kong.

I continue my trip to China telling you about Hong Kong (you can see the previous posts here and here). Chinese cities are huge and for that reason, very different one from others. One year ago we were in Shanghai, a city we loved, and we were looking forward visiting new cities.

Hong Kong was a British colony until quite recently, has a legal and economic regime different from the rest of the country and is one of the most important financial centers in the world. All this makes it unique: it is very cosmopolitan, there are people from all parts of the world, it keeps English customs (double-decker buses, driving on the left…) and it is a massive “mall” itself.

Looking for traces of ancient China we visited Man Mo temple, a haven of peace in the middle of the maelstrom of the city. It is very curious, with its incense spirals hanging from the ceiling.

We also went to Po Lin monastery, in Lantau Island, next to Tian Tan Buda, a giant bronze statue. You can arrvie there by cablecar for about twenty-five minutes and enjoy spectacular sights.

To get to the statue it is necessary to climb 268 steps! But it worths it. It transmits an extraordinary peace.

The monastery is a quiet and tranquil place. I think that most of tourists do not visit it because we were practically alone compared to the area of the statue.

Restaurantes, tiendas, edificios, mercados,.. ¡Hay tanto que ver en Hong Kong! Y todo diferente, exótico y multicultural.
